Job Description

Working for a University in Abu Dhabi, we are seeking a Director who will be responsible for leading the university to achieving high level global ranking.  They will manage the internal funding programs, championing research impact and supporting faculty and researcher development.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Research Excellence & Impact directorate under the guidance of the Vice Provost for Research.
  • Develop & maintain policies governing the selection, development, and execution of world-class research programs according to the overall University strategy.
  • Develop, implement and manage effective internal research funding programs including budget and fund allocation mechanisms.
  • Oversee the process of disbursing internal research funding including: development and dissemination of requests for proposals, coordination and support for review committees, and notification of awards.
  • Drive the development of a university wide research impact & metrics strategy and subsequent implementation of the universities research impact goals, widening the appreciation of the strategic importance of impact as well as the understanding of different types of impact.
  • Developing plans to support academics with changes in the research funding landscape as well as grantsmanship skills to increase proposal success rates.
  • Advise the University Research Council and senior leadership on progress, issues, risks, and lessons learned from existing and previous sponsored research projects and programs.
  • Provide coaching, guidance and mentoring as required to enhance the internal capabilities of the team and ensure the achievement of established objectives.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in related field, with experience working in a research-awarding environment such as a research funding agency, foundation or university internal funding function.
  • A minimum of 14 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, of which 5 years should have been in a functional lead Managerial position, preferably in higher education.
