Our client is a specialist engineering business delivering technically complex industrial refrigeration and temperature-controlled infrastructure projects across the UAE and wider GCC.

The Engineering Manager will lead the design and engineering function, ensuring that refrigeration systems, plant rooms, cold rooms and associated mechanical packages are designed, coordinated and delivered to a high technical standard. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who can manage people, challenge design decisions, support project delivery and remain close to the technical detail.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the engineering and design team across mechanical design, drafting, BIM, documentation and technical coordination.
• Oversee the full engineering lifecycle from concept and pre-design through detailed design, IFC documentation, procurement support and project handover.
• Review and approve P&IDs, system layouts, heat load calculations, equipment selections, BOQs, mechanical drawings, technical submittals and vendor documentation.
• Ensure industrial refrigeration systems are designed in line with relevant international standards, local authority requirements and internal engineering procedures.
• Provide technical direction on ammonia and/or industrial refrigeration systems including plant rooms, cold stores, process cooling and associated utilities.
• Coordinate with project managers, site teams, procurement, suppliers, consultants and clients to resolve engineering issues and support delivery timelines.
• Drive value engineering, design optimisation, clash resolution and practical buildability improvements without compromising safety or compliance.
• Maintain engineering quality, document control discipline and design review processes across multiple live projects.
• Mentor engineers and designers, setting clear expectations on technical quality, ownership, communication and delivery standards.
• Support tendering, technical clarifications, client meetings and commercial decisions where engineering input is required.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 10+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering and industrial HVAC,  specialist refrigeration or industrial cooling, with at least 3 years in a leadership or engineering management role.
• Strong technical understanding of industrial refrigeration systems; ammonia refrigeration experience is highly advantageous.
• Proven experience reviewing P&IDs, BOQs, calculations, equipment selections, mechanical layouts and technical documentation.
• Confident working with AutoCAD, (Revit MEP, Navisworks) and engineering documentation workflows.
• Ability to lead design reviews, challenge assumptions, manage competing project priorities and support commercial decision-making.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage clients, consultants, suppliers, project teams and senior management.
• UAE or GCC experience is preferred, particularly within contracting, engineering, refrigeration, cold chain, food production, logistics, manufacturing or industrial facilities.
