Our client is a specialist engineering business delivering industrial refrigeration, cold storage and temperature-controlled facilities across the UAE and wider region.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for preparing, developing and coordinating mechanical refrigeration design outputs, with a particular focus on ammonia refrigeration systems. The role requires strong technical capability, attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate design documentation for review, approval, coordination and construction.

Responsibilities

• Prepare pre-design specifications, block flow diagrams, system layouts and concept design documentation for refrigeration projects.
• Carry out refrigeration design, analysis, heat load calculations, pipe sizing, equipment selection and technical comparisons.
• Prepare and update P&IDs, BOQs, mechanical layouts, technical schedules, equipment datasheets and design documentation.
• Produce AutoCAD, Revit MEP and BIM deliverables for design review, approval, coordination and IFC issue.
• Support equipment selection, vendor approvals, material take-offs and procurement-related technical clarifications.
• Review redlines, sketches, site inputs and mechanical plans, ensuring drawings are accurate and aligned with project requirements.
• Conduct clash detection, design coordination and value engineering with internal teams, consultants and contractors.
• Ensure all design outputs comply with relevant standards, authority requirements, safety expectations and internal design procedures.
• Coordinate with project managers and site teams to support design modifications, technical queries and timely project delivery.
• Maintain organised design records, drawing revisions and documentation in line with project control requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years’ mechanical design experience within industrial refrigeration, ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, MEP or related mechanical systems.
• Hands-on experience preparing refrigeration system layouts, P&IDs, BOQs, calculations and technical documentation.
• Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems is highly preferred; wider industrial cooling or cold storage experience will also be considered.
• Advanced user of AutoCAD; experience with Revit MEP, BIM workflows and Navisworks is highly advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, vendor datasheets, specifications, redlines and project documentation.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence preparing technical schedules, calculations and material summaries.
• Fluent English communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work under project deadlines.
• UAE or GCC project experience is preferred.
