Job Description
The Head of Legal will be responsible for overseeing and managing the entire legal function within the organisation. This role involves leading the legal team, providing strategic legal advice to senior management, and ensuring the company’s legal activities align with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be a trilingual professional, fluent in Arabic, English, and French, with extensive experience in corporate law, contract management, risk management, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the legal department, providing guidance and strategic advice to senior leadership on legal matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts, agreements, and legal documents to protect the company’s interests.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations across the organisation’s operations, including corporate governance, intellectual property, and labour law.
- Oversee litigation, dispute resolution, and external legal counsel to ensure favourable outcomes for the organisation.
- Provide risk management advice and help the company mitigate legal and business risks.
- Work closely with internal teams, including HR, finance, and operations, to ensure the legal framework supports business objectives and strategies.
- Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to streamline operations and ensure legal compliance.
- Advise on mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring.
- Manage and develop a team of legal professionals, ensuring continuous improvement in performance and efficiency.
- Oversee the corporate governance framework and ensure adherence to corporate policies and legal obligations.
- Maintain the company’s legal database, contracts, and legal documentation in an organised manner.
Skills and Requirements
- Education: Law degree from an accredited institution. Additional qualifications or certifications in legal management are a plus.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate law or a similar field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Languages: Fluency in Arabic, English, and French is essential.
- Expertise: Strong understanding of corporate law, compliance, intellectual property, contract law, labour law, and risk management.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage and develop legal teams while providing clear strategic direction.
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise and influence senior leadership.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify legal risks and provide practical solutions.
- Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in legal documentation and processes.
- Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Adaptability: Ability to navigate complex legal issues in a fast-paced, multi-jurisdictional environment.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficient in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with legal management software is an advantage.
